Improvisation theatre is a great way to have fun, express yourself and make new friends.
You will learn to apply a positive mindset to unexpected adventures, work on your presentation skills and creative thinking skills and play out of your comfort zone.
The improv course for beginners is 9 lessons plus a performance at a show. We will focus on: Yes and, playfulness, collaboration and overcoming fear to fail. We will do short form games known as theatresports.
For whom: all beginners. No experience in theatre is needed, although it helps if you have joined one of the free Drop-in lessons on Fridays in Buurtcentrum De Leeuw. You don’t need to be fluent in English, very basic English is good enough. Often the participants are a mix of expats, foreign students and Dutch people who want to improve their playing skills in English. There is an intermediate class on the same Wednesdays, 20:35-22:20h
Improv Utrecht was started by Marieke van Laar during 2020-2022, when many expats and newcomers in Utrecht were looking for ways to informally meet other people. They offer free Drop-in lessons on Fridays and it has grown into a small community of fun improvisers. We like to go for drinks after the workshop or meetup for other occasions.
Marieke van Laar has been playing improv theatre for more then 25 years. She teaches at corporate teambuilding events, at Theaterschool Utrecht and other improv groups in and around Utrecht.
